Highway 50 for the Fall Colors

In Early October we took a long trip. The first touristy segment was along Highway 50. It was during the changing of the colors; truly the best time to drive through the mountains. Right as the trees start to turn, and right before the snow starts falling.

There isn’t much to see before you get to Cañon City, except the mountains off in the distance; so our first stop was the Royal Gorge. We then camped at Rincon Campground that night.

We took Highway 50 further west; past Poncha Springs,  Monarch Pass, Gunnison, Curecanti NRA, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, and finally turned south onto Highway 550 at Montrose.

This segment of the trip took us through Gunnison National Forest. Magnificence abounded every step of the way.
